I was born, raised and continue to reside in Detroit, Michigan. I have four beautiful children- 2 born at home.  I have had the blessing of catching 3 of my grandchildren.  My passion to become a midwife began with the home birth of my oldest daughter in Honduras, Central America where I had recently completed a tour with the U. S. Peace Corps and improved my fluency of Spanish.

My journey has included serving as a doula to women both in and out of the hospital, teaching childbirth education and working as a licensed paramedic with the Detroit Fire Department and currently at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital in their emergency department.

I completed my midwifery studies at Birthwise Midwifery School, in Bridgton, Maine in December of 2015.

I am a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) with my own private practice being Birth Beautiful Detroit. Recently, I was  appointed to the State of Michigan Board of Licensed Midwives. I am also licensed in Wisconsin.

Jahmanna Selassie first learned about midwifery through a Introduction to Midwifery  class offered at her high school. After taking the course she knew that this work was her calling.

Jahmanna has been in the birth world for 10 years serving families from Panama Central America to here in Southeast MI. Attending over 150 births in the hospital setting and nearly  100 births at home. Jahmanna is a trained and licensed massage therapist and focuses her practice on pregnancy, postpartum and infant massage. She has birthed 7 children all born at home.

Jahmanna is in the last phases of her midwifery training and last year in BirthWise Midwifery school . Jahmanna is the current president of the Black Student Midwives Committee  the first of its kind at Birth Wise. When Jahmanna is not receiving babies you can find her in her garden, or having a dance party in her kitchen with her children.

My name is Cynthia Jackson and I'm the founder of Sacred Rose Birthing Services. I provide homebirth midwifery care and hospital doula support for Metro Detroit families. As a midwife, I have experience in over 200 homebirths and as a birth doula I have experience in over 150 hospital births. As a midwife I have completed a rigorous 6 year midwifery apprenticeship program. During my training to become a midwife I was given the opportunity to gain knowledge and learn the art and skills of midwifery.

As a doula, I started in 2005 when I took the DONA birth doula training class and volunteered with Doulas Care for a few years. Later in 2011 I started my own professional doula business and by 2013 I became a Community-based Doula Trainer for Health Connect One Community-based Doula Programs in Detroit. I've worked tirelessly in the community as a volunteer doula and as an independent professional doula and as a result of my work I was awarded "Doula of the Decade" from Black Mothers' Breastfeeding Association (BMBFA) in Oct 2017.

In my spare time, I enjoy peace and quiet, listening to music, reading, and meditating. When I'm off call I enjoy vacationing with my family and friends. I am happy to be apart of Mosaic Midwifery Collective and I'm excited to see all the great things we will do as an organization and as midwives in our community.
